Week One: Developing Informed Opinions on Key Aspects of Health Care
Students will earn two grades this week: 1) Research cited and noted in EasyBib to be turned in after the Town Hall Meeting on Healthcare discussion on Friday = (4) Sources and (8) Notecards, completed to specifications for a Summative Grade (43%), graded by Gordon. 2) Friday discussion for classwork (35%), graded by McGrath.
The research and discussion will center on the following questions on health care today, but students will also develop one discussion question that may be asked of the panelists.
1. Is the Affordable Care Act good or bad for the United States and why?
2. What are some of the different models under which people receive coverage and care, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
3. How can the current healthcare system be altered to work for everyone?
4. What is the responsibility of the government for its citizens' healthcare system?
5. What is the best mode for healthcare delivery?
6. What are the purpose of Medicare and Medicaid, and do those systems seem to be working for the United States? Why or why not?
7. How do systems like that of Kaiser Permanente's compare to other private health insurance providers, like United Healthcare or Blue Cross, Blue Shield?
