The Holocaust: Research Related to Night by Elie Wiesel
1) Log in to GCPS portal and open Google Workspace for Education.
2) Click Research Collection Document to make a copy. This is where you will collect and then explain by paraphrasing or summarizing the most interesting and important facts while citing the source. First, let's do one together to read, select, paste, and explain that information with a parenthetical (in-text) citation.
3) Click your topic's webpage on the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum site from the eClass topic sign-up list to open your first source, or search it on the USHMM. Cite this page on your Research Collection Doc by making small changes to the sample citation we did together.
4) Read paragraphs, captions, and material on the webpage and be on the lookout for the facts you think are interesting and important enough to share with the class. What should they know about this topic to better understand it? Paste THREE of those sentences or short sections into the left column of the Research Collection Google Doc.
5) After you paste each comment, read it a couple of times so that you could explain it to someone else. Then on the right side of the table, write that fact how YOU would say it to another person. Try paraphrasing, summarizing, or even quoting a very short part of it in your own sentence as you are explaining the material.
Source #2 (Periods 2, 4, 5, & 6)
6) Look up your topic in the website sources below. Then cite this source on MyBib to generate and paste its citation into the box onto the Google Doc. Choose one that has several additional facts.
7) Read your second source to choose and paste two additional facts that you can transform into your own understanding of them, writing them into the table as you would explain each to a classmate.
8) Return to eClass to post one of your sentences to the Discussion to help inform your class period. Respond to two other posts.
