Breakdown by department: Business/Technology: 0 Fine Arts: 4 Foreign Language: 4 Language Arts: 11 Math: 5 Other: 1 Physical Education/Health: 1 Science: 9 Social Studies: 5 Comments about further needs:Fine Arts:
1) No idea --honestly- I don’t know where to go from here. 2) Discussing how to incorporate this into a band class without losing rehearsal time. 3) Everything was helpful! 4) class activities Language Arts:
1) Interdisciplinary discussions between departments about what other subject areas are doing in their classrooms. 2) I would like more activities geared toward increasing comprehension 3) providing reading strategies that are in alignment with teaching high school students, not middle school concepts/strategies. 4) Review nonfiction pieces available in media center and online. 5) More reading strategies - they work in my classroom! 6) I think the strategies to help kids understand what they are reading are the most helpful. I would also like help in assessing if their reading ability is improving. 7) More interesting non-fiction articles 8) anything that helps teach teachers how to help their students become better close readers: strategies 9) I like what we have done so far. 10) Reading Comp Social Studies: 1) None 2) N/a 3) more on how to easily assess students reading level so that I can differentiate 4) N/A 5) None |
Key to Ratings: (3) = need more information, valuable
(2) = might need more information, fairly valuable (1) = don't need more information, not valuable Comments about further needs:Foreign Language:
1) Access to AKS for other subjects to look for ways to teach across the curriculum 2) I would really have more time maybe two sessions devoted to finding appropriate texts for our kids. 3) Something of use in the target language for FL teachers. 4) Spanish Math:
1) Not much- worked well with our content area separated from the whole group 2) nothing 3) collab with other schools 4) ?? 5) 3 strategies on increasing reading comprehension Physical Education/Health: perhaps suggest some resources that may be more specific to non-core content area classes. Science: 1) I don't know what you mean by common core. . . .much of this terminology is foreign to me as a science teacher. A lot of the time I'm not sure what you are talking about. 2) How to incorporate technology in reading strategies instead of paper articles only 3) Break out session with subject areas to develop some literacy activities. 4) More time working with teachers of our own subject area sharing ideas. We found out that some people are using some excellent strategies at our last meeting where we sat with our tables. Our own department has fantastic ideas that are VERY relevant to what we do each day in our classrooms however we don't have the time to sit down and really discuss it with everyone across the department. 5) More concrete science examples 6) Review of written samples from students using literacy strategies to see products to be expected and discuss how to evaluate 7) You have provided helpful ideas that I have used in class. 8) Seeing it in practice... maybe videos lessons of people that have excellent examples. 9) I believe all aspects were met and introduced. |
Strategy Practice: "Reading an Image" (or diagram, chart, map--any sort of visual document)
A formula to help students see and understand: PK + DC = I
Using the table provided, jot down a note about PRIOR KNOWLEDGE you can apply to the image you see. Then make observations from the document clues before writing out a statement of inference as combined understanding.
